Holydays are nearly over, school is nearly starting, vacations over back to work crisis on our hands, so this is probably the final chance of chilling in front of a newly acquired gadget. There is no better time than this to purchase a laptop. Something that will aid you at work and will also help you relax at home. Now it all depends on the kind of money you’re willing to spend on it, or what you plan on using it for. Let’s be serious you won’t purchase a hardcore, turbocharged multicore gaming notebook if you plan on opening documents, navigating the web or watch an occasional movie on it.

For instance if you’re on the market for something small and simple to help you with your travels an keep you occupied, then you needn’t look any further or anything pricier than a netbook. Our recommendation is the Asus Eee PC 1015CX. This is the perfect toy for your pocket money. Under the hood you’ll find that the little thing is actually powerful enough to keep up with your multimedia needs as it’s powered by an Intel Atom dual Core CPU running at 1.66 GHz. The generous 320 GB hard drive should be more than enough for you to transport your multimedia library with from one place to another. The 10 inch LED display is good enough for your everyday needs whether you use it for work or play. With 1 GB of RAM memory it’s more than enough to run the Starter version of Windows 7 and all your basic requirements such as messenger, document viewer, video codecs and players and some music players. Don’t expect too much out of something that costs around 250 bucks.

In case you’re looking for something bigger, or the notebook is not sufficiently powerful to handle, then you might want to consider a budget laptop. They may not be as easy to carry around and are a bit more power hungry, so don’t expect the same battery life but budget notebooks can deliver more power than most expensive netbooks not to mention the other perks such as optical drives, more ports, larger screen and a fully sized keyboard.

Our suggestion for a budget laptop would be the Samsung NP RV513-A02IN. This thing is simply awesome value for money. First of all it comes with an E-450 Amd processor and has 2 GB of RAM. Due to its dedicated Radeon GPU you will get a lot more things done. The 15.6 inch HD LED display won’t disappoint you either (how can it? it’s Samsung) and you get enough storage space with its integrated 320 GB hard drive. If you don’t want to spend much cash and still have something to work with, then the Samsung NP RV513-A02IN can be yours for around $390.

In case you were looking for something from the Intel side, then you might want to consider the Lenovo Essential G Series G570. This cute gizmo comes from the Intel dimension equipped with a stronger Pentium B 940 Dual core processor (which is a bit more powerful than the AMD mounted on the Samsung) and also comes with 2 GB of RAM as standard while it can be upgraded to 8 GB of RAM total. It has the same 15.6 HD LED screen with anti-glare technology. The resolution is more than decent with 1366 x 768. While the Lenovo Essential G Series G570 comes with a bigger 500 GB hard drive, unfortunately it has to rely on the Intel GMA HD GPU which, as good as it may be, it’s nowhere near the quality offered by the Radeon GPU. On the other hand we need to remember that these are budget laptops and you won’t be playing the Call of Duty on any of them anytime soon. Yet the Intel HD GPU is strong enough to play HD movies and an array of older games. The 6 cell Li-Ion battery is good for keeping your laptop alive for nearly three and a half hours. You can get the Lenovo Essential G Series G570 for 430 bucks.

Now, in case you’re willing to spend a bit more cash to have a proper replacement for your desktop or simply want a laptop with a bit more of a kick, then you might want to go for something a mid-range laptop. These are considerably stronger than your budget laptop and will be able to handle a couple of decent games as well besides the usual multimedia requirement.

A great example of a proper mid-rage laptop is the Pavilion dv6-7012tx from HP. This thing may come with a higher price, but it also packs the necessary amount of power to fit your needs. First of all the Pavilion comes with the Intel Core i5 2450M processor which is running on two cores and 4 threads with a frequency of 2.3 GHz. It also comes with 6 GB of RAM which should fit you just fine, not to mention the dedicated Nvidia GeForce GT 630M with 2 GB of Video memory. All this for $908.
